Start your journey aboard the Paul Gauguin cruise line for a 7-day adventure through the Tahitian Islands. Before your journey begins however, plan to spend a night in Papeete, the capital of Tahiti. Jacque advises for an early check in at the Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti, which is close to the airport. Despite the small size of the island, traffic jams occur frequently. She goes on to state that it is an overnight flight from the US to Tahiti, arriving in the wee hours. You’ll want to have a place to lay your head and recover from jetlag and give yourself plenty of time pending delays. Spend the day at the local market downtown or at one of the islands wide-open golf courses.

Once on board m/s Paul Gauguin, relax amidst the ships warm, informal atmosphere knowing that you will be treated to five-star service and luxury. The ship is designed specifically for Tahiti and French Polynesia, giving you the best the islands have to offer along with authentic experience of local Tahitians who serve as entertainers and storytellers on board. Every stateroom or suite on board a Paul Gauguin cruise ship has an ocean view and nearly 70% have balconies. Dining at one of the ships three restaurants is an event like no other. La Veranda’s floor to ceiling windows provide you with exquisite views of the sea while enjoying a buffet breakfast or lunch. The reservation only dining for dinner at La Veranda features nothing but the finest gourmet cuisine. Dinner at L’Etoile is an elegant occasion featuring an array of tempting delicacies. For a more casual, relaxed atmosphere, feast at Le Grill for a buffet breakfast, grilled favorites at lunch or Polynesian specialties for dinner.

Your itinerary includes stops in Raiatea, Taha’a, Bora Bora and Moorea. Be sure to check out Taputapuatea, a national monument in Raiatea. Once the cultural, religious and political epicenter of Polynesia, legend has it that the maraes, or temples, in Taputapuatea were a place of learning and offerings to the symbolic Tiki gods. Bora Bora is a great time to check out some of the ships numerous excursion offerings. Try an off-road adventure for stunning views of Bora Bora’s natural harbor and Matira beach. Experience history and nature in one as your guide shares his knowledge of the flora and fauna as well as original World War II locations. Or dive under the water on one of the ships many snorkeling or SCUBA excursions. (Take advantage of onboard lessons if you’re not already SCUBA certified.) If you enjoy SCUBA diving, don’t miss diving Tapu at night for a unique opportunity to witness sea life that only emerges once the sun goes down. If diving is not for you, you can still partake in the wonders of the limitless sapphire seas with Glass Bottom boat tours. No day in Moorea is complete without checking out the local artisans selling one of a kind crafts or sampling the local pineapples; fresh, succulent and the best in all of Polynesia.

Once you disembark the cruise in Papeete, why not head back to Bora Bora to extend your visit. No stay in Tahiti’s tropical paradise is complete without spending a few nights in an iconic Over-Water Bungalow, synonymous with visions of Tahiti. Perched on stilts over turquoise waters, the spacious bungalows at the Four Seasons Bora Bora surrounds you with traditional teak furnishings, high ceilings and thatched roofs. Right now the Four Seasons Bora Bora is offering a fourth night free with breakfast. Pre book the Canoe breakfast only available in the over-water bungalows. The staff will paddle up with a canoe with delight pastries, fresh fruit, and coffee. Four Seasons Bora Bora offers mountain-view, lagoon-view, beach-view or resort-view bungalows, some with private plunge pools. Jacque reveals, “When people choose the bungalows they think of total seclusion, but this may not be the case. TIP: When choosing an overwater bungalow, take a look at the resort map. Some of the lesser priced bungalows are located in close proximity to one another and you can see into the other bungalow. The more secluded bungalows are located at the end of the pier.”

You may also choose to stay at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa. Stay 5 nights and only pay for 4. The Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort is nestled between two bays, against a stunning mountain backdrop. Stylish Over-Water Bungalows are decorated in a contemporary Polynesian style. Select bungalows feature spectacular beach or garden views, private plunge pools and glass floors, allowing you to gaze at the marine life underfoot. With all the amazing activities available, don’t forget to take a day to pamper yourself at the Moorea Lagoon Spa. The spa boasts 100% organic products designed to restore your mind and body.
